Tadelakt (which means ‘to knead’ in Arabic) is a labour intensive waterproof surface that’s iconic in the souks and riads of Marrakech. It is ideal in wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens. Durable and breathable, tadelakt is completely seamless. It differs from Venetian plaster in that it has a natural earth pigment. It’s organic nature can create a soothing and welcoming space.

A relatively low maintenance surface that was common in ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt, Venetian plaster has a soft, pearly aesthetic. Depending on the technique used, the results can range from smooth or textured, muted or glossy, bold in colour, near-metallic or natural and raw. A Ventian finish on walls or furniture can feel luxurious and sleek, reminiscent of European palaces and halls.
